Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): The academic community, with its function as research entities, have an important role to play in the form of engaging issues and challenges the society faces.
It is imperative for them to engage with issues and challenges but more important is their role in providing answers to the issues, academicians and researches at an event in Kohima were told.
Kohima College conducted a two-day national seminar to offer discourses for emerging debates and issues in Northeast India.
The programme was conducted on November 14 and will be conducted on the 15th too, updates stated.
The event was organised had academicians and research scholars from various parts of the country and from the state participating, a press release from the organisers to the media on Thursday informed.
The organisers stated that the seminar was organised with an objective to give a platform that would highlight ideas for the community to understand contemporary issues confronting the Northeast region and to bring forth workable solutions and strategies.
At the inaugural function of the seminar on Thursday, Dr. Luke Rymbai, principal of Model Christian College in Kohima, gave the keynote address. He congratulated the college for organising the seminar.
‘Research is not profitable if it is done for compelling circumstances, that the “drive force” ought to be thirst and love for research, and furthermore, it should not be done for academics alone but to impact societies and policymakers,’ he said.
Rymbai held opinions that the Northeast region of India provides a space for theoretical thinking for scholars. The motto of academicians should be “research, research, research,” the press release quoted him as having stated at the programme.
Dr. Konei Nakhro, convenor of the college’s research cell, also addressed the event. He was stated to have said ‘it is imperative for academicians and researchers to continually engage with issues and challenges relevant to our society, to question and more importantly, to provide answers.’
‘As extraordinary and mystifying as the Northeast region is, there are also significant emerging issues that have taken central place in regional and national discourses that have been gradual in affecting the polity and development of the Northeast, Nakhro said.
The first day of the seminar consisted of three technical sessions during which papers on various topics were presented.
