Kohima, May 31 (EMN): “Education is the lighting of a fire and not the filling of bucket” says an author of a book, Dr. Rukulu Kezo, assistant professor English department of Modern College in Kohima. Dr. Kezo was speaking at the launch of a work book ‘Naga Writings in English-A CUE based workbook for BA third semester English honours, Nagaland University’ in Kohima on Wednesday. The book was released by Yitachu, minister for School Education and SCERT.

Dr. Rukulu Kezo says most the time, the teachers tends to forget that students also come to class with full of ideas but teachers assumed that they are empty buckets, and keep feedings where the responsible learning doesn’t seems to be happening, she observed and hence she introduced the CUE work book for students. CUE is an evidence based approached that provides potentials for participation experiential learning.C- Congruence, U- Unconditional positive regard, E-Empathy
CUE workbook includes a worksheet, assessment activities, review worksheet and a supplementary section.
She felt that the teachers are too teacher centered, and as a student herself, there was no scope to explore our own mind or develop my own ideas
“This CUE work book is a result of my experience, my own conservation, book as teacher and a students that is directly adapted from PHD project”, Kezo explained. “The more learning, centered the classroom, the more the happier teacher I become” says Kezo
On her process of studying and researches, she realized literature has a lot of potential in developing the skills of the students, “it is literature you can sensitize a lot of other issues which is not always possible in the other subjects”. Literature can also improvised the speaking skills and writing skill for competitive society, she suggested. She hope this CUE workbook will make the students enjoy learning and the teachers as well. “CUE comes as a call to make education more meaningful and thought-some” says Kezo. Yitachu, minister for School Education and SCERT speaking as the chief guest says books are biggest contribution of human being moving forward. While touching on the issue with regard to math teachers, he said the department have even gone to the extent of national advertisement but there has been less response to filled up the vacancy of math’s teachers in Nagaland.
He suggested that the students should take up the courage that “I should be the one in the next five years I should be teaching maths in the school. When such decision comes in our society, in another five year time”, he hoped the problem will be solved. However he reminded that the decision has to come from the individuals. He also stressed on encouraging one another in any profession so that the society will moved forward.
Dr. H P Singh, Principal, Modern College in his welcome address said books plays an important role in life to mold and guide our life. “We shouldn’t dishonor our book because they determined what you become tomorrow” said the principal.
