Nagaland University and other have a special role to play to take Nagaland state forward, stated Governor of Nagaland & Assam PB Acharya while gracing the graduation day of St. Joseph’s College as the chief guest today.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “I’m impressed by the beautiful location and the excellent infrastructure of the college, I often heard this particular college but could visit only today and lauded the college for providing quality education and producing numerous meritorious students.”
Emphasizing on skill development, the Governor said that the central government has formulated skill development among the students of the country and has earmarked Rs 30,000 crore for skill based education at universities with the central idea to equip each students with skill so that they become an asset of the country and not liability.
Acharya referred to the status of India’s universities in world ranking on top 100 which he said is disheartening as India is home to numerous universities and also constitutes 30% representation at National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) in the United States of America. The governor said education should provide knowledge to give wealth with ultimate goal of the students being a new beginning of life and not just achieving degrees, he added the state universities were creating ‘educated unemployed youths’ instead of equipping them skills, the universities should not only be a centre of knowledge, but also be a centre of developing skills so that the young generations become an asset to the society as our country India.
The Governor while conferring awards to the meritorious students, announced that he would sponsor three (3)meritorious award from the next academic year onwards in the field of Academic, Sports and overall performance in memory of Mahatma Gandhi , DR ABJ Kalam and Dr T Ao.
