Institutions and organisations in Kohima, Pughoboto, and Yachem hold felicitation programmes to honour successful HSLC and HSSLC students.

DIMAPUR/KOHIMA — Multiple institutions and organisations in Kohima, Pughoboto, and Yachem organised felicitation programmes for successful students and schools on Tuesday.
Kohima: The Kohima Village Students’ Union organised a felicitation programme to acknowledge the achievements of students at the Kohima Village Council Hall.
A total of 250 successful candidates from the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations, as well as gold medallists from bachelor's and master's degrees, PhD students, and qualified candidates of competitive examinations, were felicitated.
Kereisiezo Sachü, President of the Kewhimia Gazetted Officers’ Krotho, attended as the special guest. He acknowledged the students for bringing laurels to the village and reminded them to always keep God first in everything they do. He asked the students to respect their parents and elders, noting that parents sacrifice and give their best for their children to succeed in life.
He further mentioned the high competition today, citing that even in Nagaland Public Service Commission examinations, about 18,000 candidates write exams, of which only about 1,500 qualify for 96 posts. He motivated the students to pursue government jobs while also exploring other careers or entrepreneurship. He also updated that there are currently 418 active members in the officers' body.
During the programme, the Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami Award was presented to Neilhouze Belho (HSLC 7th rank), the Samuel Mezhür award to Khrieketunuo Mechülho (HSSLC Arts), the Banuo Mezhür award to Keduoneinuo Evelyn (HSSLC Science), and the Lhoulienyü Suokhrie Award to Dziesekhrietuo Khezhie (BA in Tenyedie).
The event also witnessed the launch of the book "An Outline of the History of the Angami Naga", published in commemoration of the 100 years of graduation of late Lhoulienyü Suokhrie. The book was launched by his granddaughter, Alice Vizo.
Neilhou Belho and Thejakhrienuo Suohu delivered speeches on behalf of the achievers.
Pughoboto (Zunheboto): The Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) in Pughoboto organised a felicitation programme for the best-performing schools and meritorious students of the HSLC and HSSLC examinations at the Additional Deputy Commissioner's (ADC) office.
Under the Award for Academic Excellence in the government school category, Government High School Lazami was adjudged the best-performing government school for securing a 100 per cent pass percentage. New Foundation School, Pughoboto, received the award in the private school category for achieving a 100 per cent pass result.
The board also felicitated HSLC first-rank holders Vitovi, Katoni, and Jekito from Government High School, Ighanumi, with cash awards.
Dr. Sukhato A Sema, Member of Legislative Assembly and Chairman of SDPDB Pughoboto congratulated the schools and students. Stressing perseverance, sincerity, and hard work as the keys to success, he remarked that the fruit of hard labour is always sweet.
He further highlighted that the SDPDB Educational Trust Fund was a collective monthly contribution made by board members to support underprivileged students and strengthen the educational environment in the subdivision.
Yekivi P Sumi, President of the Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu, delivered a short speech appreciating the continuous encouragement and support extended by parents and the MLA.
Insightknots, a social group, extended support to deserving students through its Mission Help initiative. Under the initiative, Kumghato from GHSS Laza and Vitovi from GHSS Ighanumi were presented cash awards of INR 10,000 each.
Earlier in the day, the SDPDB meeting discussed the establishment of a Health Sub-Centre at Ighavito village. The board resolved to take up the matter with the senior medical officer of Pughoboto. Newly posted Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Viwoto Zhimomi was also introduced. A major highlight of the programme was the distribution of brush cutters to five beneficiaries by the MLA.
Yachem (Longleng): The Yachem Bühü Pangthai and the Yachem Students’ Union jointly felicitated Sreeniti Mahapatra (HSLC 19th rank) and O Mulungjungla Phom (HSSLC Arts 8th rank and subject topper in Healthcare) during a programme held at the village community hall.

Delivering the welcome address, Y Chuchet Phom, Chairman of Yachem Bühü Pangthai, congratulated the toppers, their families and the citizens of Yachem, noting that the community remains a pillar of encouragement for students.
An update from the organisers stated that representatives from the Yachem Village Council, Yachem Students’ Union and Yachem Anüti Lunglak spoke on the occasion. They reflected on the history of education in Yachem, emphasising that those achievements marked the village’s continued progress.
Speaking at the programme, Sreeniti Mahapatra has expressed gratitude to Yachem Bühü Pangthai and YSU for recognising her hard work. She thanked the community for their support and urged fellow students to pursue excellence through consistent effort and self-betterment.
In her testimony, Mulungjungla Phom credited her success to the Almighty God. She shared how seeking God through random Bible verses each morning in Class 12 guided her through challenges. She also encouraged her peers to adopt the same spiritual discipline.
It stated that the M Chenlom Phom Foundation Award, comprising cash of INR 10,000 and citations, was handed over to the meritorious achievers during the event.
