DIMAPUR — The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) organised a two-day sensitisation training on “News and photo reporting and PA system coverage" at the DIPR conference hall, Kohima, beginning on Wednesday.

At the inaugural programme, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha, in his speech, highlighted the crucial role of IPR as a bridge between the state government and the people.

According to a DIPR report, he emphasised the importance of accuracy in the dissemination of information to the public and the need to prioritise factual reporting over speed.

He said that the IPR department is expected to ensure that the citizens of the state are informed about all government programmes, schemes and initiatives. He also stressed the responsibility of the department to build a positive image of the state while accurately informing the public.

Metha encouraged the officers and staff to view challenges faced in remote areas as a valuable life experience which will prepare them for future leadership roles within the department. He urged the participants to be proactive in self-education, to utilise the internet and social media to enhance their knowledge and skills.

While appreciating the impactful work done by the department, he encouraged officials to increase its visibility, particularly on social media, and to do more feature writing, videos, and even write books and documentaries highlighting success stories to inspire the citizens of the State.

Joint Secretary, IPR, Kusa Fithu, stated that such training programmes are important for skill enhancement, productivity improvement, and fostering camaraderie among the employees. She acknowledged the technical and sensitive nature of the department's work and urged all participants to utilise this opportunity for self-improvement to perform their tasks effectively and efficiently.

The two-day programme aims to strengthen the professional abilities of DIPR staff in reporting, photography, and technical coverage.
