Dimapur, May 27 (EMN): Aboi Area Students’ Union (AASU) has appealed the concerned authorities to address plight of the lone Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Aboi, particularly to provide adequate accommodation for students and deployment of sufficient teaching staff.
One major area of concern for the area students and parents, according to the union, is the accommodation in the government higher secondary school after their 10th standard. The problem is compounded by students from private schools vying for admission to Class XI besides its own students, who pass from the government high school in Aboi as well as surrounding areas.
GHSS, Aboi, being the only higher secondary school in the vicinity, the school has enrolled 190 students in this current academic session, while a considerable number of students are still seeking admission.According to the union, the current building housing higher secondary section is actually the high school building which was constructed a few years back, while the high school was shifted to the boy’s hostel a few hundred metres away. It stated that due to the increasing number of students, the authorities are facing severe shortage of class rooms. According to the union, the current building houses five class rooms, two staff rooms and a store room. It said the class rooms, which could hardly accommodate maximum 50 students at a time, was compelled to enrol 70 students in the current session.
Besides the accommodation problem, the class rooms in use were reported to have leakage during rainy season thereby interrupting the normal school routine. To add to the misery of the students, there is shortage of benches and desks, which made the students sit in tightly crammed condition during the hot humid season.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, the union appealed the concerned authorities to look into the grievances of the lone GHSS in Aboi and do the needful improvement at the earliest. It has assured continued support with the school authority to produce the best government school in the State.
Meanwhile, the union has congratulated the teachers and staff of GHSS Aboi for the dedicated service in producing excellent results since ever since the school was upgraded.
The school has produced 85% pass percentage with 6 students in 1st Division, 17 students in 2nd Division and 6 in 3rd Division in the HSLC examinations this year. Two students have also passed with distinction in Education and Political Science.
The union was optimistic that the school can produce even better results even achieve 100% pass percentage if better facilities are provided for the students and teaching staff.
