Dimapur, October 6: A national seminar on “Masheer in Recreational Fisheries and Eco Tourism In North East India : Scientists- Stakeholders- Entrepreneurs Meet-cum-5th Northeast Angling Festival” was held at Jasingfaa Aqua Tourism Centre, Nagaon Assam on October 1 and 2. The event was organised by ICAR – directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research.
The programme was inaugurated by minister of Fisheries Government of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya.
A press release from the Anglers Association Nagaland stated that more than 60 renowned scientists, research scholars, expert anglers and ICAR officials participated from all over the country. The programme had also participation from the department of fisheries, entrepreneurs and anglers from all northeast states.The seminar had panel discussions, keynotes, and Angling workshops. The general secretary of Anglers Association Nagaland, Ricky Ozukum presented on the river system of Nagaland, different Masheer species and other indigenous fishes of Nagaland. He highlighted on different opportunities Nagaland can offer for eco-tourism as well as for game fishing. He further briefed the delegates on the different conservational activities the association have been campaigning against, especially for the rampant use dynamites, chemical and electrical current in the river system.
36 anglers from Nagaland participated at the 5th Northeast Angling Festival which was organised along with the conference. Taliakum Longkumer and Mhonbemo Ngullie of Anglers Association Nagaland won the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.
