Nagaland government directs departments to accept Aadhaar App credentials as valid identity proof across the state
DIMAPUR — The Home department has directed all government departments, district administrations and implementing agencies across Nagaland to accept Aadhaar verifiable credentials shared or verified through the newly launched Aadhaar App as valid identity proof.
According to a DIPR report, the directive follows a circular issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar Usage Division, as part of efforts to enhance digital enablement.
The report stated that UIDAI has launched the Aadhaar App, available on both Android and iOS platforms, to enable Aadhaar holders to digitally show, share and verify their identity.
It clarified that while sharing identity details with an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) through the app, the 12-digit Aadhaar number is not transferred. Instead, users can choose to share either their complete or partial identity details in the form of Aadhaar verifiable credentials.

The department stated that such digitally shared details are legally valid under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which recognises electronic records.
It further noted that, in accordance with the Aadhaar Act, 2016, and its regulations, Aadhaar verifiable credentials shown, shared or verified through the app constitute a legally valid form of identity proof.
These credentials are recognised in addition to other accepted forms of Aadhaar identification, including the Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar, Aadhaar card and m-Aadhaar.
All concerned departments, district administrations and implementing agencies have been asked to ensure strict compliance with the directive and accept Aadhaar verifiable credentials presented through the app for establishing the identity of Aadhaar holders.
