JALUKIE, SEPTEMBER 28
As the theme suggested ‘You are precious,’ it was a rare and unexpected invite for the alumni to their second home, St.Xavier Seminary (SXS), Jalukie after 30 years of its foundation. The excitement and nostalgia filled the air in the posh campus of the priestly training centre on Saturday morning. The welcome banner at the entrance read, ‘Alumni-cum-parents meet.’ Over a dozen of well-placed officers from both public and private sectors who are now ex-seminarians and a galaxy of young priests attended the day-long programme with three sessions including Holy Mass, Entertainment and Joint Meeting.
Bishop of Kohima Diocese, Dr.James Thoppil in his homily as main celebrant opined that the success of St. Xavier Seminary was not measured in terms of priesthood alone but the degree of catholic impact made by its products- both ordained priests and ex-seminarians on the society.
Later, a joint meeting of the priests and officers reviewed the effectiveness of the seminary in its training modalities, recruitment criteria and pressing challenges faced by the faculty.
The meeting evolved a collaborative effort to set forth a roadmap for construction of extension building to accommodate more aspirants. The meeting also strongly felt a significant need of support for a section of seminarians from poor economic background. In this regard, the meeting called for a shared responsibility towards sponsoring the underprivileged students. The meeting urged the officers to play a more collaborative role with recruitment staff in matters of providing inspirational lectures and recruitment process during vocational camps. The joint meeting also formed a group with its nomenclature, ‘St. Xavier Seminary Past Pupils Association’ with DC Peren, Peter Lichamo as president, Augustine as vice-president, Dennis Sumi as general secretary, Simon Belho as treasurer and Fr. OC Abraham as advisor.
Earlier, the budding seminarians performed a beautiful skit and lively music in the fun-filled auditorium hall to mark the unforgettable moments of joy.
