DIMAPUR — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton have congratulated filmmaker Theja Rio and the team of ‘Angh’ on winning the Platform Prize at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
In a post on X, Neiphiu Rio described the win as a “historic” moment for Nagaland and India, saying it carries a Naga debut onto the Oscar journey.
“It is also a proud moment for our region and its storytellers on the global stage as ‘ANGH’ brings Naga cinema and its talent into the spotlight,” the chief minister said, while extending his best wishes to the team for its journey ahead.

Patton described the achievement as a “watershed moment for Naga cinema”, congratulating Theja Rio, the cast and the entire team.
He said the recognition brings Naga stories to “one of the world’s most celebrated stages for cinema” and described it as a proud moment for Nagaland and India.
Patton also expressed hope that the achievement would open new avenues for Naga cinema and encourage more filmmakers from the state to tell stories from the region.
Meanwhile, the High Commission of Canada in India also acknowledged the film’s premiere at TIFF.
“From Nagaland to Toronto, film is a powerful way to showcase Tribal and Indigenous culture, preserve heritage and foster understanding between people,” it said in a post on X.
