Through your esteemed daily, I wish to highlight some of the difficulties faced by the Senapati-Mao to Kohima-Dimapur passengers in the hope that some well meaning individuals, Civil Society Organisations or institutions come up to address the issue towards an amicable end.
As an occasional passenger coming from this side (Manipur), whenever I go to Kohima or Dimapur, it is with deep disquiet that I force myself to come to terms with the fact that the ongoing stalemate over the Taxi Parking Site between the Southern Angami Tata Sumo Union and the Senapati District Taxi Welfare Union is still not over even after nearly two months of meetings and negotiations.
Again, with tighter clamp downs in the movement of local taxis between Mao Gate and Khuzama, the hapless passengers have no option but to take the walk under the unpredictable summer sun and rain of some 3 km stretch to reach their destinations. Imagine the plight of a lone woman passenger like me carrying more than one heavy baggage or a helpless woman carrying her child with their baggage alongside the slippery muddy road under such weather!
It is so frustrating because the two Taxi Unions or Brothers fighting for their respective rights seem to have turned totally deaf to the repeated requests of the travel fatigued passengers and their woeful plight. Like me, it is true that most passengers are the poor common people who have no vehicles of their own and are dependent on taxis. Won’t somebody please intervene?
