Dimapur, November 1 : Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday said everyone can be a leader but the quality of a leader is determined by how one uses his power under different circumstances.
Addressing the first conference of Chumukedima Area GBs Association (CAGBA) at local ground Diphupar as the chief guest, Rio said: “Civilisation takes thousands years to develop, but it just takes a few minutes to detach it from us.”
While lamenting the division in Naga society, he stated that “the existence of Jealousy and enmity in our society shows we are still not civilized”.
Reminding the GBs that they are the custodian of the Naga Customary Law, Rio encouraged them to strengthen this collective association, never to misuse the power vested in them, to work together for good, and to safeguard our customary laws.
Speaking at the function as the guest of honour, EAC Chumukedima Thungbemo Patton called the GBs as an indispensible entity in the administrative institution.
He was, however, critical of the GBs shirking their duties and responsibilities.
The programme was chaired by CAGBA president Tokishe Achumi and vote of thanks was delivered by CAGBA vice president Yashimeren Longkumer.
