KOHIMA, MARCH 18
[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n an attempt to make Nagaland headway in the field of science and technology, the Career CliniQ has initiated a campaign with the aim to educate the parents and students on career and employment opportunities particularly in the field of science.
Teaming up with Career CliniQ is the State office of the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT), which has been spearheading the task of skilling the youth of the State.
During the four-month series of campaign for the school and college students in highlighting career opportunities that exist in the field of science, a series of career awareness seminars for the parents would be undertaken in various schools across the State. This is felt because starting the awareness programme right at the school level is considered the key.The first such session is scheduled on March 24 at Northfield School, Kohima at 10 am, for which all the parents are advised to attend the awareness seminar.
While stating that many parents tend to look only into the traditional careers with a flock mentality, the Career CliniQ has requested all the parents to attend the seminars to gain awareness on the opportunities that exist in the other fields as well.
Addressing a press conference at DECT office, Kohima, Dr. Anirban Choudhury, director of Career CliniQ, underlined the need to make Science and Math easy through the use of the recently launched digital courseware, namely the Smart Tutor which is also a solution in that direction.
He said the seminars aims to educate the parents on the usage of these multimedia technologies which can help their wards to understand the concept better and thereby perform better in their academics. Special parental control mechanism has also been in-built so that parents can keep track of the progress of their child.
“Career CliniQ Nagaland has been entrusted an ambitious task of reaching out to ten thousand or more students within this academic year,” Dr Choudhury said while soliciting the cooperation and participation of all the schools. He further expressed hope that a collective effort from the department, academia and industry will make a meaningful and positive change in the Naga society.
Citing the present crisis of lack of science and math teachers at the school level in the State and inability of the Directorate of School Education (DoSE) to fill up the vacant posts, Dr. Choudhury also underscored the need of encouraging science and math education among the students from an early age. He further stressed the need to educate the parents on the various career opportunities that exist in the field of science.
He also highlighted the recently announced central government scheme named as Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) which aims to promote Science and Math education amongst children in the age group of 6-18 years.
Director of DECT Muthingnyuba Sangtam highlighted on the various vacancies that are available at the State and central level.
“On one hand everybody wants a government job and on the other hand there are plenty of jobs available at the Central and State level but there are no takers. We are supporting this campaign because it aims to educate the parents and students on employment opportunities in the field of science,” he said adding that the Career CliniQ has been provided accommodation in the DECT building so that students and parents can come up with their education and career related queries and thereby get assisted in their process of career planning.
Additional Director of DECT Y. Vandanshan Lotha stressed on the importance of developing matching skill-sets as per the job requirements.
“Students can prepare themselves for a career as a science and math teacher right from the school level and thereby serve the mother state subsequently in solving the problem of unavailability of science and math teachers. Similarly, students need to start with Career Planning for every other career at an early stage. Students planning to move out of the state for higher studies can also seek valuable guidance and advice,” Lotha added.
Rtd government officer Rovihulie Angami, who also spoke during the programme, felt that the Career CliniQ is here not to misguide but to rescue the Nagas.
Stating that the Career CliniQ will meet success with the support of the DECT department, he appealed the concerned department to render its best keeping in mind the future of the upcoming generation.
