A nongovernmental organization called the ‘Radiant Educational Society’ in Kohima organized its 2nd art competition with the theme “experiencing children’s world through art” on July 29in the multipurpose fall of Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School in Kohima.
District Project Officer, Dr. Menuosietuo Tsiekha was the chief guest of the event. In his address Dr. Tsiekha said that creating art expands a child’s ability to interact with the world around them and provides a new set of skills for self-expression and communication. He added that by doing art activities children develop life skills such as communication skills, problem solving skills, social and emotional skills, fine motor skill, self-expression and creativity skill.
Chairman of the NGO, Mengukhrietuo Marcus said that the organization was set up as a “self-funded,” non-charitable society and the society undertakes projects like Art competition, career guidance, counselling etc. The organization’s most important project is the specialized adoption agency set up Kohima district, he said.
In the art competition, the first position was bagged by Wilson Kikon of Ministers Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Emtili Aier of Northfield School stood second while the third position went to Neiphrezo Ezung of Nagabazar Baptist School. The fourth position went to Keneistseinuo Vizo of Fernwood School and the fifth position to Kedukho K. of Schola Lojes School. They were awarded a certificate each and prize money of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7000, Rs. 5000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 respectively.
In the seniors’ category, Agriculture department officials, Lepden Jamir and proprietor of Ketho Art Kethoselie Khubve were the judges.
