In every election in Nagaland , selling and buying of votes is the practice and if such practice continues , the Nagas are doomed to self - enslavement and the contemporaries will owe great indebtedness to future generations.
Nearly cent per cent of the population are professed believers of Jesus Christ who is the Savior , Deliverer, Giver of freedom and liberty from the yoke of sins and wickedness . “ You will know the truth and the truth will make you free “ ( John 8 : 32 ). If we really know who God is , we will really believe in Him , fear Him and obey Him . Truly knowing who the true God is , it is the sole power which transforms human lives into new lives.So clinging to Christ is getting free. We all have to cling to Christ to get free from enslavement of evils .
We have to realize that our complacency about the practice of selling and buying votes will bring our people to more and more in a state of as if an election is for the sake of election at the expense of the purposes . It is a very tragic thing. So by all means such self – burnt practice should be put to an end in oneness of mind .
In order to bring about a change , the following suggestions are being formulated:-
1. Launching a campaign to bring about a neat and clean election which is free from the practice of selling and buying vote be initiated by the State Government and let it be supported by all State level hohos , Tribal hohos ,Church councils or organizations or unions .
2. Grass root level bodies such as village councils, Khel councils , Municipal or Town councils , every church congregation irrespective of denominations in the state are to be entrusted to create awareness and educate the people in their own respective jurisdictions.
3. Both candidates and electorate , any violator of the principle of the campaign will put himself or herself into a black list and no one will escape from the web of grass root bodies .
4. The election should be a God – fearing , prayerful, sober and decorum election .
5. If the diabolical practice of selling and buying vote is restrained and the set goal of free and fair , neat and clean election could be scored , maximum election expense for a candidate may be five lacs rupees only. And it will be the glory of God and will pave the way for brighter future of the Nagas .
