The 9th of Inter School Table Tennis Tournament 2015 got underway on Thursday at the Multi Sports Complex Mokokchung. The tourney was grace by T. Lemlila Sangtem the SDO (C) of Mokokchung as the chief guest.
Sixty players from eight schools in and around Mokokchung Town are competing in the 2-days tournament. The defending champion of the 8th Inter School Table Tennis Tournament - Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School, Impur - will be defending their title against seven schools in this ninth edition of Inter School TT Tournament.
Addressing the participants at the inaugural function, T Lemlila Sangtem exhorted the sportspersons on the need to build the spirit of competitiveness and the urge to play without compromising the spirit of sportsmanship.
Talking about the importance of sports in a person’s life, Lemtila asserted that sports’ keeps our mind active and also helps us achieve a healthy body.The bureaucrat reminded the participating students to give top priority to their studies while also not neglecting the importance of sports in one’s life.
While encouraging the participants to become a role model to others, Lemtila said that “one becomes a role model to other, if he/she succeeds in excelling the both.”
Meanwhile, the organizing convener Ali Walling welcomed the guests and players to the tournament. Highlighting about the event, Walling informed that the tourney is divided into -under 13 (Cadet) boys and girls; under 16 (Cadet) boys and girls; under 19(Cadet) boys and girls; and Boys Team event.
The Tournament is being organized by Mokokchung District Table Tennis Association (MDTTA) and sponsored Moasangba Jamir, the president of Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industries (MCCI) who is also the president of NPF Mokokchung Division. Officials from the MDTTA, students and teachers from various schools attended the inaugural function. The tourney will culminate on Friday, August 7.
