- DIMAPUR — The 9th edition of the biennial Frolic Cup,
organised by the Frolic Club, kick-started at Medziphema local ground on
Friday, with 21 teams vying for the trophy.
- In the opening match between Eimi Sporting Club and Longol
FC, Eimi SC dominated the first half with two goals coming through the boots of
Nikato and Longoulen, respectively, an update stated.
- But the second half saw a more determined Longol FC, who
finally found their combination as Ngulminthang took the lead with a goal, followed
by a brace from Haochon. The match ended 3-2 in favour of Longol FC.

- In the afternoon match, FC Simlai completely dominated
Skylight FC right from the first whistle. Despite Skylight’s Pagin making the
breakthrough in 15th minute with a spectacular goal, Simlai’s Ngulgouhad found
the equaliser in the 35th minute.
- The second half saw the Simlai boys pouring goals in rapid
succession; Ngulgoulal in the 39th minute, Moses (51st min.), Henkhohao (56th
min.) and Lamginmang (65th min.). At the end of regulation time, the scoreboard
read 5-1 in favour of Simlai.
- Earlier, James Swu, Additional Deputy Commissioner
Medziphema, the chief guest for the inaugural function, in his address,
acknowledged Frolic Club’s role in providing a platform to players which, he
said, is evident from the 14 players from Medziphema area who took part in the
recently concluded Nagaland Super League.
- Exhorting the
participants, Swu emphasised that only through discipline can a person aspire
to succeed in any chosen field.
