DIMAPUR, JUNE 4
THE Railway authority and Dimapur district administration supervised by SDO (Civil) and Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Niuland in co-ordination with Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police Station (GRPS), local police and civil carried out an eviction drive against unauthorized structures within Railway land at East Yard Colony Dimapur today from 10 am and demolished 98 illegal structure.
Talking to Eastern Mirror SDPO Niuland pointed out that a majority of the 140 illegal structures earmarked for eviction were commercial outlets. The occupants were served notice a week ago. But with some of them obtaining stay orders illegally the eviction could cover all the earmarked structures.
It may be noted that Dimapur Railway Station has been selected by the Centre as a Model Station. Nagaland Railway Contractors Union (NRCU) for the past 14 years have been aiming for development of Dimapur Railway Station but failed to do so because of illegal stay order produced by the occupants. But with the initiative of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) having issued the order for eviction, the possibility for expansion of Dimapur Railway looks hopeful.
An official of NRCU talking to Eastern Mirror said that Dimapur Railway Station stated that half of the Railway land has been occupied through illegal means. Illegal land patta he added should not be issued which obstructs expansion of Dimapur Railway Station. Illegal construction along the railway land which has mushroomed has obstructed the development in the area. The first drive was carried out on 2nd June 2014 at Railway Bazaar West Yard Colony Dimapur with the consent of the DDRM Lumding.
