Kohima, August 2 (EMN): The 8th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) begins in Kohima today.
The two-day NLA monsoon session will conclude on August 5 with a recess on August 4.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer will make an obituary reference of MLA Toshi Wungtung, who passed away on July 1, before the proceedings of the session on day-1.
It was informed that the Speaker will make an obituary references to the passing away of former MLAs -- Khutovi Sema, K Imlong Chang, PK Along, N Yeshito Chishi, Dr. KC Nihoshe and T Kikon – before the house is opened to questions and answers.
The Commissioner and Secretary will then report the assent of the governor to the bills like The Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Fourth Amendment) Bill 2020, Nagaland Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and Nagaland Appropriation Bill, 2021 from No.1 to 4.
Thereafter, the chief minister will table a copy of the Annual Report from 2019-2020 of the Nagaland Information Commission, while Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tribal Affairs and Higher Technical Education, will lay a copy of the Rules/Bye-Laws of Nagaland Eklavya Model Residential Schools Management Society on the table.
It was informed that Rio will then move the Nagaland Professions, Trades, Callings and Employment Taxation (Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2020 and Nagaland Lokayukta (Amendment No.21) Bill, 2021 besides introducing the bills.
Meanwhile, Neiba Kronu, Minister of Planning and Coordination, Parliamentary Affairs and Land Revenue, will initiate discussion on matters of urgent public importance pertaining to Naga political issue.
It is to be seen if the concept of forming an opposition-less government will affect debate on crucial issues on the floor of the house during the two-day Assembly session.
It may be mentioned that a pre-session swab-test for Covid-19 screening was conducted for non-vaccinated persons including legislators, officials, security personnel, Assembly staff and others ahead of the Assembly session.
