[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he eight suspected NSCN (IM) cadres who were arrested by Manipur police from a camp located at Phungreitang, Ukhrul, were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) today and sent into judicial custody for 15 days.
As the CJM Imphal East is on leave, they were produced before the CJM Imphal West complex under tight security arrangement along with SDPO Ukhrul Police Station led police commandos cover, sources in Imphal said.
The arrested cadres include S/S Sgt Wangkepam Raiping, (31 years) of Tushar village, S/S Sgt Major Issaicher Jajo (34) of Ningthi village, S/S Cpl VL Shimraygam of Tuinem village, Pvt Winki (25) from Mon district, Nagaland, S/S L Cpl Shepachi (22) from Phek district, Nagaland, Pvt Jongjee (25) from Wangtha, Arunachal Pradeh, S/S L Cpl Somrei (27) of Kangpat, Ukhrul district and S/S Sgt Khareithing Mung (33) of Allithang, Ukhrul.
Among the eight cadres, self style Sgt Wangkepam Raiping (31), son of Ramreingam Raiping of Tushar Village and self style Cpl VL Shimraygam (33), son of of Aleng of Tuinem Village were the two cadres who were re-arrested separately. The former has been remanded in police custody of five days under Tamenglong Police Station and S/S Cpl VL Shimraygam for four days under Phungyar Police Station, it as reported.Mention be made that all the eight cadres were arrested from the NSCN (IM)’s camp in Ukhrul town, about 84 km north east of Imphal, during a day break operation on July 13 following the killing of former Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (ADC) Vice Chairman Ngalangzar Malue by unidentified gunman near the popular Finch Corner along Imphal-Ukhrul road on July 12 morning.
In another development, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West, RK Memcha, today sent Advocate Pukhrambam Arjun, member of the Executive Committee of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (ILPS), who is spearheading campaign for the introduction of the ILPS in the state, to jail till August 16, 2014.
Advocate P Arjun was arrested by Police Commando from Keishampat on July 28 last on charges of involving in fund raising activity of an armed group operating in Manipur.
Counsel of the Advocate P Arjun, Khaidem Mani submitted to the court that P Arjun is a member of All Manipur Bar Association and his profession was an Advocate and a columnist of local dailies. Demand to discharge him under section 59 of Cr PC.
After hearing from both side, the judge admitted to go on bail on his furnishing PR bond of Rs 30,000 with one surety of the like amount. Advocate P Arjun denied going in bail saying he is innocent, so the judge later sent him to police custody, legal sources added.
