78 Bn CRPF opens women's volleyball tournament under SPANDAN in Dimapur with 18 teams taking part.
DIMAPUR — The 78 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), held the opening ceremony of a women’s volleyball tournament under the banner of “SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development” at B/78 NIDC in Dimapur on Monday.
According to a press note, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Ashok Kumar, Commandant of 173 Bn CRPF, as the chief guest, and Deven Bhosle, Commandant of 78 Battalion CRPF, along with other officers, representatives of the Sports Authority of India, coaches, officials, participating teams, and sports enthusiasts.
The tournament is being organised with the objective of promoting women’s participation in sports, youth engagement, peace, unity, and inclusive development through sports, and providing a platform for women athletes to showcase their talents.
A total of 18 women’s volleyball teams from different parts of Nagaland are participating in the tournament.
The tournament follows the recently concluded 10-km mini marathon organised by 78 Battalion CRPF at its headquarters in Sechü-Zubza, where more than 200 athletes from different parts of Nagaland participated on September 5.
The opening match of the tournament was played between Livingstone and Court Queen Club.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the important role of women in nation-building and national development. He pointed out that women are making significant contributions across various fields, including education, science, sports, public service, security, and administration.
He also noted that active participation in sports helps develop confidence, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and determination among women and young girls, adding that sports bring people together beyond social, cultural, and regional differences.
Through SPANDAN, 78 Battalion CRPF aims to promote the message that sports can serve as a powerful medium for fostering peace, friendship, harmony, and development in society.
The tournament will continue till the final match scheduled to be played on September 10 at B/78 NIDC, Dimapur.
Deven Bhosle expressed confidence that the tournament would inspire more young women and girls to participate in sports, pursue their aspirations with confidence, and contribute towards building a strong, united, peaceful, and progressive nation.
