Dimapur, July 27 (EMN): The 78 Bn CRPF observed its 78th Foundation/Raising Day with great pomp on July 27 at Zubza, Kohima.
On the occasion, officers and men paid floral tributes to the brave martyrs of the force who sacrificed their lives in the line duty for the cause of Nation at the magnificently erected Jai Jawan Memorial structure in Unit Hq.
The tribute was followed by ceremonial guard of honour and hoisting of CRPF flag at the Unit Quarter Guard.
At the function, the Commandant highlighted the significance of the day. He said initially the force was raised under British rule on July 27, 1939 at Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh as “Crown Representative Police”. After independence, Sardar Vallaba Bhai Patel, the first Home Minister considering the value and importance of the force and the versatility of the force, decided not to disband the British force, rather keeping in view the requirement of the nation, he rechristened the Crown Representative’s Police as “ Central Reserve Police Force” as an Armed Force under the Union of India. Today, he said the CRPF is the largest Para Military force of the world, performing diverse duties across the length and breadth of the nation. CRPF is also sending its contingent as peace keeping Force of UN to various War-torn countries, he added.
To mark the day variety of programmes were organised at Zubza camp on under the leadership of Unit Commandant, Neeraj Yadav.
Sports and games competitions like inter-company badminton, debate competition for jawans and a painting for children were organised and prizes were distributed to the winners.
