- KOHIMA — The 77th
Viswema Youth Organisation (VYO) Sports Meet commenced on Thursday, with
Vitsorel Lcho, a member of the Nagaland State Consumer Dispute Redressal
Commission, attending the inaugural session as the guest of honour.
- The three-day sporting event is taking place at the John
Government Higher Secondary School ground and multipurpose hall, Tewetsoi-Ozwü,
Sweba, Viswema village.
- Addressing the event, Lcho stated that sport has become a
highly lucrative profession, with players in various disciplines earning more
than businessmen or service personnel.
- He also highlighted that both the centre and state
governments are prioritising the creation of opportunities for young talents,
as well as the development of sporting infrastructure. He encouraged
sportspersons to be hard-working, dedicated, and disciplined in order to excel
in any discipline they pursue.
- Lcho advised the young players to identify their talent and
focus on a single potential sporting discipline in order to excel and become
professional players. He also advised the athletes to abstain from intoxicants
in order to remain healthy and to make a humble beginning, progressing from
amateur to professional status.
- Furthermore, Lcho expressed optimism that the young
sportspersons from Viswema would excel and bring laurels by winning medals not
only at the local level but also at the national level and beyond.
- The inaugural programme was led by VYO vice president
Chothavi Mekro, while a prayer was offered by Dzüvingol Sothu, associate pastor
of CRC Viswema. A folk song was presented by Vimetha Kin and Tejonü Lcho, while
Puzakhwezo Khanyü, VYO games and sports secretary, administered the oath to the
participating teams.
