76 adult learners complete a three-month Adult Literacy Campaign at Pangti in Wokha district.
WOKHA — A felicitation programme for 76 adult learners who successfully completed a three-month Adult Literacy Campaign was held at Pangti Community Hall in Wokha under RD Sanis Block on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wokha K Mhathung Tsanglao said it is never too late to acquire education and encouraged the learners to continue their studies by revising what they had learnt and striving to learn something new every day.
He urged the learners to share their knowledge with family members and others who are unable to read or write. Highlighting the importance of education, he called upon husbands to support their wives in pursuing education and stressed the need to educate daughters.
The DC said even basic literacy skills, such as writing one's own name or remembering a mobile phone number, could prove beneficial in daily life. Describing the campaign as a valuable opportunity to acquire foundational knowledge, he encouraged the learners to make practical use of the skills they had gained.
Senior SDEO Wokha Nchumbemo Jami said the outcome of the campaign had exceeded expectations and noted that the learners had benefited significantly from the initiative. He pointed out that several participants who initially could not write their names were now able to write and sign independently.

The three-month night school programme focused on basic literacy skills, including writing names, recognising and writing numbers, and learning mobile phone numbers. The learners were also commended for their enthusiasm and regular attendance throughout the campaign.
The programme was organised by the Samyan Federation, Sanis Block, and Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) under PRI-CBO Convergence, in collaboration with the Wokha district administration, Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Mission Shakti (BBBP), and the Department of Education.
Sungro GHSS raises grievances with Wokha DC
On the same day, DC Tsanglao, accompanied by Senior SDEO Wokha Jami and officials from Mission Shakti, visited Sungro Government Higher Secondary School and interacted with teachers and students.
During the interaction, Principal R Mhonlumi Yanthan highlighted the shortage of teachers and instructors, stating that the situation was affecting the smooth functioning of the school despite efforts by the institution to manage the challenges. She appealed to the officials to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
The principal also informed that the school had received 20 sets of furniture under Samagra Shiksha on September 21 after years of requests from the school, civil society organisations and government agencies. She expressed gratitude to the department for extending the support.
Speaking at the programme, Jami encouraged teachers and students to work diligently and strive for improved academic performance. He urged them to remain committed to the overall development of the institution.
The DC encouraged the teachers and students to continue giving their best despite existing challenges and advised students to remain optimistic, dream big and stay focused on their studies.
Assuring support, Tsanglao said the grievances raised by the school would be taken up with the concerned authorities and efforts would be made to address the issues.
