KOHIMA — The
report of the Ministry of Education on Unified District Information System for
Education (UDISE) plus showed that 73.2% of schools across Nagaland have
functional electricity connection — 65.6% in government schools and 92.4% in ‘private
unaided recognised’ schools.
Nagaland has a total of 2725 schools including 1952
government schools, 772 private unaided recognised schools and one other,
according to the ministry’s data 2023-2024.
Out of the total 2725 schools, 2208 schools including 1483
govt. schools and 724 private schools have electricity. However, electricity is
functional only in 1995 schools (1281 govt. schools and 713 private schools).
The report also stated that 56.3% of schools have internet
facility. A total of 1535 schools have internet facility with 47.8% or 933
govt. schools and 77.8% or 601 private schools.
A total of 1973 schools or 72.4% have functional computer
facility for pedagogical purposes —1306 government schools (66.9%) and 666
private schools (86.3%).
The data also revealed that percentage of schools having PCs
with functional integrated teaching learning devices stands at 8.2% or 224
schools (78 in govt. schools and 146 in private unaided schools) in Nagaland.
1616 schools (59.3%) have functional PC/desktops facility in
schools and 20.1% of total schools have functional laptop/notebook facility,
while 17.8% of schools have functional tablets.
A total of 2531 schools have toilet facility but only 2231
schools have functional toilet facility. As much as 2435 schools have girl’s
toilets out of which 2132 schools have functioning toilets.
In regard to boy’s toilet facility, 2458 schools have the
facility but only 2115 schools have functional boy’s toilets.
215 schools have friendly toilets for Children with Special
Needs (CWSN) but the friendly toilets are functional only in 178 schools. It
also stated that 1093 schools have ramp facility and 490 schools have ramp and
handrail facility.
The other infrastructure facilities, according to the data,
showed that 2114 schools have library/book bank/ reading corners, 2130 have
playgrounds, 32 have digital libraries and 1215 schools have kitchen gardens.
Another 389 schools have solar panels, 1949 have drinking
water facility with 1811 functional, 1850 schools have hand wash facility and
943 have functional rain water harvesting system.
Conducting medical check-up of students in last academic
year stands at 947.
On students’ enrolment, 412975 total students were enrolled
including 208009 boys and 204966 girls: as much as 141852 were enrolled in
government schools and 271019 in private schools while 104 enrolled in
“others.”
From the 4.1 lakh enrolment, 1.3 lakh students are in
foundational level, 93,636 in preparatory, 88,089 in the middle and 91,265 in
the secondary.
The dropout rate for Nagaland during 2023-24 stands at 4.3%
(Female 3.9% and male-4.7%) in the preparatory (Class III to Class V), 5.8%
(Female 5.2% and male 6.4%) in the Middle (Class VI to Class VIII) and 10.3%
(Female 9.4% and male 11.2%) in the Secondary (Class IX to XII).
As for the teaching staffs, there are 32602 teachers; 13686
males and 18916 females.
Nagaland schools have also 3817 non-teaching staffs in all
management categories. There are 2423 non-teaching staffs in private unaided
recognised schools and four in the ‘others’ category.
