KOHIMA — Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday underscored the urgent need to promote skill development and entrepreneurship to tackle unemployment while addressing the DB Job Fair 2026 at Don Bosco College, Kohima.
Citing the Annual Administrative Report 2025-26 of the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the governor said that more than 72,000 job seekers are registered with employment exchanges across the state, with nearly 40% comprising graduates and professionally qualified youth.
According to him, the figures highlight the pressing need to expand employment opportunities, strengthen skill development initiatives and promote entrepreneurship among young people.

Encouraging the candidates to make the most of the opportunity, Yadav said that job fairs serve as an important bridge between employers and job seekers.
They not only provide access to employment but also promote skill development, career planning and greater participation in the private sector and emerging industries, he added.

Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, said that the state government is working to create an ecosystem where young people can access training, employment services, entrepreneurship support and market-driven skills.
The department, he said, is focused on connecting job seekers with employers, strengthening skill development and creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

He highlighted government initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for the youth, including the Nagaland Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Mission, job fairs and PACES (Providing Access to Core Employability Skills), through which hundreds of young people have already benefited.
"However, no government programme can succeed without the participation of the youth themselves. Skills open doors, but attitude determines how far one goes," Longkumer said.
He added that employers consistently seek young people who are willing to learn, work hard, communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism and integrity. While technical skills are important, character, discipline, punctuality and perseverance are equally essential, he said.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Pampackal, SDB, Salesian Provincial of the Province of Dimapur, informed that more than 1,000 vacancies were available through the job fair.
He said that over 20 recruiters from Nagaland and other parts of India, along with employers offering international opportunities, participated in the event.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Roy George, SDB, Executive Director and Chief Functionary of AIDA Dimapur, said that this was the third job fair organised at Don Bosco College over the past two years, reflecting the organisers' commitment to creating employment opportunities and supporting the aspirations of young people.
According to him, AIDA Don Bosco Job Placement Network has been providing career guidance, employability training, job placement support, competitive examination coaching and teacher training programmes across Northeast India.
He added that nearly 90% of registered candidates have been placed, while about 45% are women and 25% belong to SC/ST communities.
The event was jointly organised by the ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Don Bosco Job Placement Network India, the National Career Service and the Regional Employment Exchange (MCC), Kohima, in association with the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
