- IMPHAL — The ‘Clean Senapati River Campaign’
collected around 70 tonnes of garbage along an 8km stretch of the river flowing
through Senapati district's headquarters.
- The cleanup, part of the second mass drive in February-March
2025, covered areas from Mt. Everest College parking to Kathikho Karong.
- The Karong Senapati Town Committee launched the first phase
of river cleaning in October-November 2024.
- This came to light during a follow- up meeting on ‘Clean
Senapati River Campaign’ held on Monday and chaired by Deputy Commissioner of
Senapati, Mamoni Doley.
- The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate
Rang David Kung, Chief Executive Officer/ADC Adahrii Maheo, Project Director
(DRDA) PP Ronald, Additional SP Thangkhochon
Haokip, CSOs, Karong Senapati Town Committee president and members,
along with youth presidents of all localities and colonies.
- The meeting deliberated on the construction of waste
collection centres, rationalisation of waste collection routes, requirement of
inventory, penalties for disposal of wastes into Senapati River, ban on
Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) and constitution of task force for the campaign.
