DIPHU — The 6th freshers meet of Karbi Traditional Music, Culture & Research Institute (KTMCRI) was held at KTMCRI office, Lorulangso in Diphu on Wednesday.
KTMCRI is an institute for learning the Karbi traditional music and songs under the Art & Culture department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Attending as chief guest, Executive Member (EM), KAAC Art & Culture and Health & Family Welfare, Surjya Rongphar, said that the setting up of the KTMCRI has helped in promoting and preserving Karbi folk culture. He said that through the institution many have learnt the rhythm of beating the Karbi traditional drums and playing other Karbi traditional musical instruments. The folk songs which are losing their presence in the present generation can be learned here, he said.
Principal, KTMCRI, Bonsam Kathar informed that classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays for a period of three years where courses like Chengpi Kethip, Lun Barim and Lamtasam are taught.
The instructors are Haberam Ingti, Jorsing Bey and Mohori Bey.
For the 2023-2024 sessions, a total of 29 students are admitted.
The Principal, Kathar welcomed the new batch and wished them success.
During the event, meritorious students of previous session 2022-23 were also felicitated for securing highest marks in the exam conducted by KTMCRI.
