6369 persons booked for NDPS, NLTP violation

Dimapur, June 30: State Excise department registered a total 6362 cases and arrested 6369 persons in its drive to curb illegal sale, possession, smuggling and transportation of liquor and drugs during April 2015- May 2016. The seizures were made during raids from different locations of Dimapur town and other outskirt areas. Regarding drug seizure, Excise department detected 82 cases and arrested 87 persons. The department seized 1570 kgs of contraband Ganja, 2 ½ kg of opium, 22 gms of Brown Sugar, 2726 bottles of cough syrup and 110651 capsules and tablet including Spasmo Proxyvon, Relipen, Alprazolam, Diazepam etc. Regarding liquor, the department detected 6289 cases and arrested 6282 persons. The seizures included 160560 bottles of assorted liquor 7752 litres of country made liquor. The market value of the seized items was worth Rs 2 crores 25 lakhs. Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Lanuwati Jamir said all the drug pedlars have been booked under NLTP Act 1989. He said Excise department is conducting surveillance round the clock to thwart any attempt to smuggle liquor in the town/ district headquarters. Meanwhile, he has sought public cooperation for successful implementation of NLTP Act 1989.Meanwhile, acting on tip off, personnel of Excise Narcotic Cell manning the inter-state check gate at Khuzama intercepted one Ashok Leyland truck bearing Registration No. PB10 BS 2713 and seized 1620 kgs of contraband Ganja neatly packed in 114 polythene packets and concealed inside secret chamber of the vehicle. In this connection, driver of the truck identified as Kuldeep Singh (36) was arrested and forwarded to judicial custody booked under Section 20 (b) of NDPS Act ’85.
