THENYIZU — The 52nd Sports Meet of the Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA), hosted by Thenyizu Village, will kick-start on January 7 at local ground, Thenyizu village under Phek district.
The week-long sporting event will culminate on January 11.
According to the committee on local arrangement (COLA) of the host village, over a thousand athletes and officials from ten villages and units of CAGSA are participating in the sports meet held bi-annually.
Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, will be the guest speaker for the opening ceremony, which will be held on January at 10 am. Khamo will unfurl the association’s flag, followed by the lighting of the tournament torch. He is also set to inaugurate the rest house and also the morungs constructed to commemorate the event.
The week-long sporting event will feature track events (men and women) - 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m mixed relay.
The field events (men and women) include long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw.
There will also be arm wrestling (men and women) and game events (men and women) - football, volleyball, and basketball.
Dozhohu Tunyi, president of Chakhesang Hoho, Kohima, will be the guest of honour for the closing ceremony.
