Imphal, June 17 (EMN): The total number of Covid-19 cases in Manipur has increased to 552 with the detection of 52 new positive cases, Health department officials said on Wednesday.
Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of Health department in a press release on Wednesday said that 52 persons (32 males, 20 females) were confirmed as new Covid-19 positive cases from the VRDLs (Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratory) of RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences-30) and JNIMS(Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences-22) in the last twenty four hours,
Stating that they are all returnees from other states, it said that they are being shifted to the Covid Care Facilities.
It stated that all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
The total numbers of positive and active cases are 552 and 360 respectively. 33 persons were discharged on Wednesday from RIMS after they are found Covid-19 free on RT PCR test. Stating that the total number of recovered cases is 192, it said the recovery rate is 34.78.
It informed that trace, test and treat are the most effective medical strategies against Covid-19 pandemic. Under the initiatives of the central and state governments, five RT PCR machines are now working at the VRDLs of RIMS (2) and JNIMS (3), it said. In addition three truenet machines (one in JNIMS and two in RIMS) are also now used for Covid testing. The testing average is about 1200 per day. At this rate, the backlogs in the two VRDLs are likely to be cleared soon, it added.
