Chief Minister TR Zeliang declared open the 36th Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports and Athlete Meet 2015 at NAPTC ground Chumukedima today.
Addressing the opening ceremony as the chief guest, Zeliang said that among all government departments, police and uniformed service was considered as the most disciplined department. “Therefore, the state government has made maximum employment in the police and education departments where about 50 percent of the state’s salary is consumed by these departments”, he said. He further said that the government has been giving importance to the police department because of the fact that without security nothing could go ahead.
He lauded the personnel for earning good response from the nation by displaying their bravery both within and outside the State and encouraged them to continue with the same spirit in the future.
Zeliang also reminded the uniformed personnel that participation in games and sports is a part of their overall duty. “Anything done in pursuance of government programme is a duty of government servant”, he remarked. He observed that for police personnel games and sports is an integral part of fitness and discipline and encouraged them to give their best and participate with true sportsman spirit.
Stating that nations/ states are battling for supremacy, Zeliang was optimistic that Nagaland uniformed personnel could also bring laurels to the State through games and sports.”May the police meet bring better feelings of brotherhood amongst the various police units”, Zeliang said.
Earlier, the chief guest on arrival was introduced to the officials and team managers, followed by band salute and march past by all the 31 units from across the State. The chief guest also released the souvenir on the occasion.
Minister PWD Vikheho Swu, H&FW Minister Longon, Advisor S.I Jamir, Parliamentary Secretaries Jacob Zhimomi, Yollow Konyak, Shetoyi, Essac, Picto, former DGP’s, retired senior police officers, unit commanders and others attended the opening ceremony of the 36th Police Meet 2015.
DGP Nagaland L.L. Doungel, IPS delivered the welcome note while organizing secretary, Bendang Lemtur gave the introductory remark.
Altogether 2239 personnel representing 31 units from across the State are participating in the 36th edition of Nagaland Police Duty- cum-Sports and Athletic Meet 2015.
