A 50-day wood carving training Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme begins at Indisen village in Dimapur to empower 30 local artisans.

DIMAPUR — The Guru Shishya Hastshilp Prashikshan Programme (GSHPP) in wooden carving craft was inaugurated at Indisen village in Dimapur district on October 10.
The programme is sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, under the National Handicrafts Development Program (NHDP) - Skill Development in Handicraft Sector (SDHS), and implemented by the Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (NHHDC) Ltd., Dimapur.
According to an update, the intensive training programme is designed to empower 30 local artisans with advanced craftsmanship, combining traditional heritage with modern techniques under the direct guidance of an empanelled Master Craftsperson.
Scheduled to run through its 50-day duration, concluding on December 7, the workshop aims to elevate product quality and ensure the heritage of Naga handicrafts continues to thrive.

Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship set for Oct. 20-21
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from NHHDC Ltd. and the Handicrafts Promotion Officer (HPO) from HSC Kohima.
Addressing the participants, both the deputy general manager of NHHDC and the HPO stressed the critical importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship, mastering intricate wooden carving techniques, and leveraging government initiatives to create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Throughout the two-month hands-on workshop, participants are provided with all necessary raw materials, tools, and a daily stipend or wage compensation. Additionally, the programme features continuous monitoring and inspection by officials from the Handicrafts Service Centre to ensure quality instruction and successful implementation.
