WOKHA — The 4th
Winter Open Airgun Shooting Competition, organised by the Airgun Sporting
Association of Nagaland (ASAN), was held on Saturday at the Likya Community
Hall in Wokha.
The event was attended by Nzano P Kikon, Deputy Chairperson
of the Wokha Town Council, as the special guest.
In her address, Kikon highlighted the importance of female
participation in competitive sports. Although there were no female competitors
this time, she encouraged women to participate in shooting sports.
She also commended ASAN for providing a platform for
emerging shooters, with the potential for Wokha's athletes to compete
internationally.
Ajit John, a founding member of ASAN, delivered the vote of thanks,
expressing gratitude to God for the success of the event and the enthusiastic
participation of local youth.
He shared ASAN's vision to expand its reach beyond Wokha to
other districts, such as Kohima and Dimapur, emphasising the importance of
grassroots development to ensure equal opportunities for shooters across
Nagaland.
He also thanked the sponsors of the event, including AZ
Communication and Trading, M/S TR Lotha Electrical Division, IZZE Collection,
and R Murry Gun House, for their continued support.
The competition saw L Yibomo Odyuo claim the championship
title, with Benathung Ovung as the first runner-up and M Nyamo Odyuo in third
place.
Out of 40 registered participants, 34 attended the
competition. The organisers noted a higher turnout this year compared to
previous editions.
