Mokokchung: It was a disappointing first match for Arkong Ward, as they lost 3-0 against Mongsenbai ward in the opening match of the 4th Mokokchung Inter Ward Football Tournament which got underway at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Monday.
A brace from Imnatoshi and an additional goal from Menjur in the second half was enough to disappoint Arkong Ward, who were in full gear in the starting. With this victory, Mongsenbai ward campaign for Pool A starts with three points.
In an outstanding performance by Bendangsoba scoring twice and adding another by Jungshiwati gave Penli Ward a 3-2 win against Dilong in the second match.
Bendangsoba's fastest goal in the tournament in one minute was equalised by Temsuyanger in the 5th minutes of the game, but Bendangsoba again struck in the 11th minute for a brace followed by Jungshiwati in 20th minute (1-3) in the first half.
Penli Ward conceding an own goal in the last minute gave a breather to Dilong, however, the final whistle shuttered their hope for an equaliser ending in a 3-2 defeat.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Alempang suffered a 3-1 loss against Artang in the third match. Yashimeren, Tongpang Lemtur and Namang found the net for the team from Artang, while Moasunep scored the consolation goal for the Alempang.
Earlier, the tourney was kicked off by Sentitula, Division Forest Officer, Mokokchung as the guest of honour. In her address, she said that ‘we have to step accordingly to the changing world, therefore, in this alpha generation age, sportsmen should be smart and be specified in their respective fields’.
She also challenged the players to have achievable goals and which is realistic to be successful.
In this year’s edition, 13 teams will be vying for the coveted title, which is considered as one of the top tournaments in Mokokchung district.
