Medziphema is gearing up for 4th Frolic Cup, organized by Frolic Club, Medziphema, starting from April 10. In this year edition under the theme ‘Goal for Change’, 20 -25 teams are expected to take part in the tournament which will be played at Medziphema Town local ground.
Frolic Club Medziphema was formed by a group of like-minded colony youths (Ward-3) with a humble beginning in 1998 and has, till date, over 300 registered clubbers including minors of their colony.
Frolic Cup Football Tournament is a biennial event for football lovers, originally introduced for Medziphema and adjoining areas .However over the years its popularity grew from strength to strength and now starting attracting teams even from other districts of Nagaland.In the 1st edition in 2008, Kuki Youth Club, Medziphema were as the Champion team, while Winfield Club, Medziphema had to contend with the Runners-up.
In the 2nd edition in 2011, Excelsior Club, Medziphema lifted the trophy, while Winfield again had to settle for Runners-up.
Naga Regiment, Kohima put its hand on the trophy in the 3rd edition, 2013, while were Kuki Y.C, Medziphema became the Runners-up.
It is expected that this year’s edition will witness a mega battle of boots from different teams with the last date for registration fixed on April 6. Entry forms are made available at S.K. The prizes, increased every tournament, includes cash + certificates for winners, 1st and 2nd Runners-up as well as individual prizes including best goalkeeper, best defender, player of the tournament, best forward, highest scorer and best disciplined team.
