IMPHAL, June 21: Close on the heels of 10 day economic blockade in tribal areas which covers the supply lines of Manipur, the state of Manipur would be facing another round of statewide bandhs from Thursday onwards.
The first 48 hour bandh was called by the Joint Action Committee(JAC) Against Brutally Killing of Md Farooque Khan, Md Saddam, both from Lilong Turel Ahanbi, Kaleikhong and Md Zamir of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai who is seriously injured. The bandh which will cover Thoubal district and Mayai Lambi route in Imphal West district would start from June 23.
Announcing this, the JAC Convenor Mustafa also said that two students namely Md farooque Khan and Md Saddam were killed while Md Zamir was physically assaulted brutally at Mayang Imphal Sagai Shabi on April 7 this year. The move to call the bandh was initiated after the state government has failed to fulfill their demands which include justice into the April 7 incident.
On the other hand, another JAC Against The Announcement of Wanted Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Leader Khomdram Ratan and on implementation of ILPS, Singjamei Wangma Imphal, threatened to call 48 hour statewide bandh from June 23 if the state government failed to withdraw the wanted tag fromn former convenor of JCILPS Khomdram Ratan on or before June 22.The decision to call the bandh was taken during a public meeting at Singjamei bridge junction on Tuesday. Manipur police had registered a case against Ratan and declared him a wanted man with a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information of his whereabouts.
Meanwhile JCILPS which is spearheading public movement for the implementation of Inner Line Permit system or a similar regulation to control influx of outsiders, has announce another round of fresh agitation from June 23 onwards, according to a press release issued by Hayatur Rahman, assistant convenor organization affairs committee of JCILPS.
