IMPHAL, September 18: In a major boost to the Congress in Manipur, all four MLAs of Trinamool Congress have joined the ruling party on Sunday.
“We took the decision as we have not seen any future in the party. None of our important state issues, including the ILP, was raised in Parliament by the Trinamool Congress MPs,” president of Trinamool Congress’s Manipur unit Thounaojam Shyamkumar said. Shyamkumar represents Andro Assembly constituency. Another Trinamool MLA Dr I Ibohalbi of Oinam constituency also shared a similar view.
The other two TMC MLAs who resigned from the primary membership of the party and joined the INC are K Sharat of Konthoujam constituency and O Lukhoi of Wangoi constituency.
The decision of the TMC MLAs comes as a morale booster to Congress in Manipur after a senior MLA of the party Yumkham Erabot joined BJP on September 12. In the last elections, seven TMC candidates were elected to the 60-member Manipur Assembly. In 2015, three of them were disqualified by the Speaker while one was allowed to attend the House. One of them expired later.
Meanwhile, president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has approved the joining of four unattached MLAs to INC, general secretary (administration) of the party RK Imo said in an order.
