In a tragic incident, four persons including a minor girl were killed and more than 15 others injured after a bus they were travelling in met with an accident near Phek town Wednesday morning.
According to Phek police, the ill-fated community mini-bus carrying 20 passengers was on its way to Phek from neighbouring Kutsapo village when the accident happened at around 9.45 am today. The cause of the accident is apparently said to be mechanical failure.
Three people- the bus driver, a minor and an adult male died on the spot, while another seriously injured passenger who was being transported to Kohima for medical treatment is reported to have succumbed to his injuries on the way. All the other occupants of the bus are said to have sustained injuries and eight are in critical conditions, some of whom have been shifted to major hospitals in the state capital later in the day.
The four deceased were Chisakho Rhakho (bus driver), Chivozo Rhakho, Vepanuyi Rhakho and a 12 years old girl, Zhokulu Khesoh, who was also the daughter of Kutsapo village council chairman.
Soon after the accident was reported, personnel from the district administration, police, security forces and emergency responders rushed to the spot to tend to the injured and investigate the crash.
Police said though the cause of the accident is suspected to be from mechanical failure of the vehicle, nevertheless, a case has been registered in Phek police station and further investigation will be carried out.
1 killed in Khuzama accident
In a tragic accident, one person was killed after a truck overturned and fell above a Bolero jeep on December 21 evening near Khuzama village.
The incident happened at around 5.30 pm when the truck coming from Manipur overturned in a sharp curve just few kilometers away from Khuzama village. The truck, as reported, was said to be moving in great speed.
The deceased has been identified as one Kevimhal John Thaprü (41 years), son of Vizosal Thaprü of Khuzama village.
The deceased along with his pregnant wife and his sister and a niece were reported to be inside the Bolero jeep when the incident took place. They were heading to Khuzama for Christmas vacation. The deceased was a post graduate teacher at Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima. According to sources, the deceased got married only this year on April 18. After the accident, he was rushed to the hospital at Jakhama Army camp. However, he reportedly succumbed before reaching the hospital.
