The 3rd Wokha Inter-School Sepaktakraw Tournament began at Public Ground Wokha with seven schools competing in various categories.

WOKHA — The Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association (WDSA) inaugurated the third edition of the Wokha District Inter-School Sepaktakraw Tournament at Public Ground, Wokha, on Tuesday.
Rhanbemo Odyuo, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wokha unit, attended the event as the special guest.
In his address, Odyuo commended WDSA for consistently organising the tournament and promoting sports in the district. He lauded the association’s achievements in producing national and state-level players within a short span of its formation.
Encouraging students to participate with dedication and sportsmanship, Odyuo urged them to envision representing the state and the nation. He also appealed to parents to support their children’s involvement in sports, emphasising its potential to foster community unity, bring laurels to society, and promote self-reliance.
Odyuo further informed that the BJP Wokha unit will host the Sansad Khel Mahotsav at the same venue on November 15, and invited students to participate in the one-day sports event. He extended best wishes to the students, institutions, and organisers for a successful tournament.

The oath-taking ceremony was led by T Zuchanthung Ezung, vice president of WDSA, followed by the official declaration of the tournament by the special guest.
Earlier, in his presidential and welcome address, WDSA President T Thungchibemo Lotha acknowledged the association’s efforts in promoting Sepaktakraw over the past four years.
He highlighted its achievements in sending students to state-level competitions and organising various activities. Lotha also urged parents and institutions to encourage students to take up the sport, citing its potential for rapid progress and national-level recognition.
Seven schools are participating in this year’s tournament, which will feature 30 matches across categories—U-14 boys and girls and senior boys and girls in the Regu event (three players per side).
The tournament will conclude on November 12 with a closing and prize distribution ceremony, where Dr. Thungdemo Kyong, chief of Team Metamorphosis and honorary executive member of WDSA, will attend as guest of honour.
