3rd Corps join hands with Forest dept. in protection of wildlife

Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): With the initiation of the General Officer Commanding Army of 3rd Corps, Dimapur, Lieut. General, Anil Chauhan, an awareness programme for conservation of wildlife in general and Amur falcons in particular was organised at Manekshaw auditorium on Sept. 15. Brigadier Rakesh Sharma, Col. Ajit Yeole, Col. S. Rangnathan, JCOs, Jawans, principals, teachers and students participated along with officers and staff from the Wildlife Wing, Forest Department. PCCF (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Satya Prakash Tripathi, spoke on dependency of human beings on forests and intrinsic relationship among human beings, forests and wild animals. He also shared about different habitats of wildlife in Nagaland conserved in protected areas and community conservation areas. Highlighting the steps taken by the government for protection of Amur falcons since 2013, he appealed the students to protect forests and wildlife. Wildlife Wardenm Kiphire, Suman WM Shivachar, gave powerpoint presentation on conservation of wildlife in Nagaland, highlighting different species found in the state. He also explained the legal provisions for curbing wildlife crimes, captive animals in Zoological Park, wildlife in protected areas and community conservation areas. He also shared the success story of conservation of Amur falcons. A documentary film titled, “Fly Free”, made by the Nagaland Forest Department was also shown in the programme. 3rd Crops, Army Hq, Dimapur, Col. Y. Ajit Yeole, in his concluding remark, informed that all paramilitary units under the control of the 3rd Crops have been directed by the competent authority to create awareness programme among Jawans, children, students, villagers and other stakeholders in protection and conservation of wildlife and Amur falcons and that units are ready to provide assistance to the Nagaland Forest Department in this endeavour.
