DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6
The 3rd All India Police Archery Championship commenced on January 5 with a grand opening ceremony at the 4th Assam Police Battalion, Guwahati. The five-day event which will conclude on January 9, have 19 teams from across the country taking part in the championship. Teams from security forces including CISF, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, are also competing in the championship.
The Nagaland Police team, with 13 archers in its squad including Naga Olympian Chekrovolu Swuro, is also taking part in the competition. The team is led by senior and prominent Archer Vesuzolu Swuro as team coach-cum-manager.
Day-one of the championship witnessed an impressive performance by Nagaland Police Archery team as Thupuvoyi Swuro of Nagaland Police team archer bagged one gold and one silver medal in 50-meter and 70-meter distance respectively.
The young archer also won silver in the individual highest scorers’ competition next to the ITBP archer. In the women’s round, Vetolu Nienu won another bronze medal.
