- DIMAPUR — A 3D dental laboratory, a state-of-art
facility and first of its kind in the state for dental application, at Naga
Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) was inaugurated by the commissioner and
secretary of Health and Family Welfare department on May 5.
- The 3D dental laboratory at NHAK was funded under PM-DevINE
(Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region) scheme by the
Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) in association with NEC
(North Eastern Council) and AMTRON (Assam Electronics Development Corporation
Ltd.), a digital design and 3D printing centre of excellence in the electronic
manufacturing cluster (EMC) in collaboration with other government agencies.

- An update from NHAK mentioned that in line with the vision
of Prime Minister that 21st century India should be at the forefront of
Industry 4.0 innovation, the Ministry of DoNER, Government of India, in
association with NEC and AMTRON, has started the journey of deployment of
digital public infrastructure for 3D printing ecosystem covering all states of
northeast region as a 100% centrally funded project under PM-DevINE budget.
- It added that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed
on March 19, 2024 between AMTRON and NHAK for setting up 3D dental laboratory
at NHAK.
- It stated that 3D printing is a technology that has become a
key part of dentistry, allowing dental surgeons to create accurate models and
custom-made prosthesis/ devices for patients. It has also become a digital
revolution that the dental industry has quickly adopted in chair side and in
dental laboratories.
- It added that 3D printing technology in dentistry could be
used for printing- diagnostic model (Patient’s teeth and jaws for diagnosis and
patient education purpose), surgical guides-for accurate and safe surgery,
crowns and dentures, aligners and splints.
- Advantages of 3D printing included efficiency, cost
effective, waste reduction and chair side delivery of artificial printed
prosthesis.
- Public are informed to avail the benefit of the technology
under the department of dentistry at NHAK.
