IMPHAL — A total of 36,725 candidates, including 18,350 female students and 18,375 males, will appear in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BoSEM).
The examination will commence on February 23 and continue till March 23.
Among the candidates, 392 are internally displaced, including 231 in the valley centres and 161 in the hill centres.
Although the total number of candidates in the hill centres (19,046) is higher than that of the valley centres (17,679), the maximum number of candidates this year are from private schools (27,036).

The examinations will be conducted in 161 examination centres, including 100 centres in the valley and 61 in the hills.
BoSEM Secretary S Jitelal Sharma announced this during a press conference held in Imphal on Sunday.
He said that to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations, ten nodal officers have been appointed. In the valley centres, 36 inspection teams will monitor the situation, while approximately 36 other teams will oversee the situation in the hill centres.
A control room has also been opened, and certain precautionary measures under Section 163 of the BNSS have been promulgated in and around the examination centres.
Urging candidates to appear for their examinations without disruption, Sharma appealed to the public to refrain from calling bandhs, blockades or general strikes to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the examination period.
In HSLC 2025, a total of 37,052 candidates, including 18,592 female students and 18,460 males, had appeared in the examination.
