358 Naga students evacuated from Kaziranga University, Jorhat, after campus tension; safely escorted to Dimapur amid condolences.

DIMAPUR — Three hundred fifty-eight Naga students of Kaziranga University in Jorhat were evacuated and brought back to Dimapur on Monday morning following tension on campus triggered by a Naga student’s remarks about the late singer Zubeen Garg.
According to the president of Naga Students’ Union Jorhat, Mughaka Kiba, the students left the university on Sunday night and reached Dimapur in around 25 buses escorted by security personnel, arriving at the Circuit House in the early hours. Students of other institutions in Jorhat have remained in their respective colleges and hostels, he informed.
Kiba said that the evacuation was a precautionary measure and expressed hope that normalcy would return to the university campus after the Durga Puja holidays, allowing students to resume classes in a peaceful atmosphere.

The situation is now considered normal, with authorities working to restore calm and prevent similar incidents in the future, he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, while condoling the demise of Zubeen Garg, expressed relief that the students had returned safely. In a post on X, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and admirers of the singer and thanked Jorhat Police, district authorities, locals and MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami for their support and assistance.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and countless admirers who are mourning this loss. Amid this atmosphere of grief, I’m relieved that all students from Nagaland have reached Dimapur safely,” he wrote on X.
