Kohima, Feb. 11 (IANS): About 3,400 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines and 77 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have arrived in poll-bound Nagaland, an election official said on Sun.
Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha has said that the VVPAT machines would be deployed to all 2,196 polling booths across the state. It will be for the first time that the printer-attached voting machines would be used in Nagaland, he said.
Of the 281 companies of central armed police forces (CAPF) to ensure smooth conduct of the forthcoming assembly elections, the poll officer said 77 companies have already arrived in the state and have been deployed to the districts.
Further, Sinha said that 204 companies would be arriving in Nagaland after completion of the Tripura assembly elections scheduled for Feb. 18, adding that the companies which have arrived are from the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal and the Railway Protection Force.
Sinha said that a section of the CAPF is also being utilised at static police check posts to check cash, arms, liquor and other illegal items.
