
MOKOKCHUNG — NDPP working president, N Bendang Jamir, said that the 33 percent reservation for women under the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023 will be reviewed after three terms.
He said this during the thanksgiving service of Wabang Kichu, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) councilor elect from Ward No 18 held at Salang in Mokokchung town on June 21.
Congratulating the NDPP candidate, Wabang Kichu, for winning the Lijaba Lijen Ward 18 seat unopposed after the withdrawal of Independent candidate, Jamir said people of the ward have exhibited a win-win situation for the party.
He described PDA government led by the chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, as a popular government that fulfills the aspirations of the people. Stating that PDA government believed in giving equal opportunity to women in decision making bodies, he said 33% reservation for women was incorporated in the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023.
The elected MMC councilor, in his thanksgiving speech, said rendering service to the people is a passion for him and expressed his gratitude to the people of Lijaba Lijen for giving him the opportunity to serve them.
“I will serve the people with transparency and without corruption as you have put your trust on e, by electing me as your councilor,” he vowed to the people of the ward.
He also sought the cooperation of the people in order to fulfill the vision set for the ward. He added that rectifying one’s shortcomings, cooperation and unity can overcome any obstacle towards a progressive ward.
