MOKOKCHUNG, JULY 8: The 30th Mokokchung District Badminton Tournament (MDBT) 2016 got underway with K Libemo Jami, Youth Resource officer and District Sports officer, Mokokchung as the guest of honour at Sports Hall, Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Friday.
Organized by Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) the two-day tourney will witness competition comprising of men’s doubles, under-13 boy’s & girl’s single and double event, under-15 Boys single and under-17 boy’s single and double event.
Addressing the inaugural programme, the guest of honour lauded the MDBA team for putting their efforts toward a well-structured coaching camp for this tournament, and also the parents for endorsing their support to the up-rising young talents.
Jami said that during his three-month tenure as the district sport officer, he had seen many sports coaching camps conducted by various Sports Association and groups. It affirms that the district has got vast young talents in sport, he said.
The sports officer also suggested that if the department concerned and the various sport associations put their heads together and come up with a concrete long term plan than it would benefit the promising young talents and adequately redress the sporting structure in the district.
The president of MDBA, Er Toshikaba disclosed that the selected players from the tourney will be given intensive coaching to represent the MDBA at the coming Inter District & State Open Badminton Championship which is scheduled to be held at Kohima.
The tourney is being held under the supervision of Temsuyanger, National grade II Umpire and four state umpires. Altogether around 50 players under various categories are participating in the tourney which will conclude on July 9.
