CAG finds 30 Nagaland cases involving INR 1,214 crore pending, with 10 unresolved for more than five years
KOHIMA — Thirty cases involving misappropriation, defalcation, losses and thefts, with a combined amount of INR 1,214.37 crore, were pending in Nagaland as of March 31, 2025, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has reported.
The cases were highlighted in the CAG’s State Finances Audit Report for 2024-25, which was laid on the table of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly during its ninth session.
The Food and Civil Supplies department accounted for the largest amount, INR 952 crore, in a single pending case INR, according to the report.
Of the 30 cases, 25 involving INR 1,187.88 crore were awaiting departmental and criminal proceedings INR, while five cases involving INR 26.49 crore were pending before courts.
The age profile of the cases showed that 20 had been pending for up to five years, nine for five to 10 years and one for 10 to 15 years. Thus, 10 cases had remained unresolved for more than five years.

According to the CAG, the prolonged pendency pointed to the need for closer monitoring, timely completion of departmental proceedings and better coordination with investigative and judicial authorities.
It also referred to Rule 37 of the General Financial Rules, 2017, which stipulates that every government employee is personally responsible for any loss sustained by the government through fraud or negligence on their part.
An employee may also be held responsible for a loss caused by the fraud or negligence of another government employee to the extent that their own action or negligence contributed to the loss.
