Security forces arrested three militants, belonging to a proscribed outfit, from the vicinity of the India-Myanmar border in Manipur's Chandel district
IMPHAL — Security forces arrested three militants, belonging to a proscribed outfit, from the vicinity of the India-Myanmar border in Manipur's Chandel district, police said on Tuesday.
Two illegal bunkers were also destroyed in Ukhrul district in a separate operation, a police statement said.
Three active members of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup were arrested from an area near the Myanmar Border Pillar No 50 under Chakpikarong Police Station limits in Chandel on Sunday, it said.
All held the rank of self-styled lance corporal in the proscribed outfit, the police said.
Two illegal bunkers, allegedly set up by armed groups, were also destroyed during a joint operation by security forces in the Thawai Kuki village and surrounding areas in Ukhrul district on Monday, the statement said.
Two single-barrel rifles, one pistol with a magazine and ammunition were also recovered during the operation, it said.
Security forces have been conducting search operations and area domination exercises in the fringe and vulnerable localities across all districts of Manipur since ethnic violence broke out three years ago.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic strife between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023.
